GroundUp reported that Lili was shot while sitting in his vehicle in Khayelitsha. A Ses’khona spokesperson confirmed the incident.
A police spokesperson told GroundUp that Western Cape police are investigating the attempted murder of a 39-year-old male, and that the motive is unknown. No arrests have been made yet.
Eyewitness News reported that Lili's condition was said to be critical.
EWN quoted Ses'khona spokesperson Sithembele Majova as saying the movement is devastated by the news, and also found it strange that the shooting happened on the eve of a planned march to Parliament and the ANC offices over the high rate of unemployment.
The marchers will protest over the high rate of unemployment and the fact that the ANC is allegedly blocking a job creation project with the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa).
According to the Cape Times, the ANC has threatened disciplinary action against any members who take part in the march to its offices in Thibault Square.
Lili, a former City of Cape Town councillor, was one of the ringleaders of the so-called "poo protesters" who dumped human faeces at the Western Cape legislature and Cape Town International Airport. They were acquitted in July this year. Lili was also charged with bringing the ANC into disrepute, but was reinstated in March.
